Biography
Bernie Joyce is a Connemara-based multidisciplinary artist with a twenty-year practice spanning painting, drawing, printmaking, film, and photography. Rooted in fine art, her work extends through diverse materials and methods, including weaving sculptural forms from bog reeds. Her practice explores relationships between making, place, and lived experience, developing ideas through research, experimentation, and a process-led enquiry that is both intuitive and materially responsive. Working through the Irish language, Joyce brings attention to the often unseen, behind-the-scenes dimensions of the Connemara landscape.
In 2024, she graduated with a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Art from Atlantic Technological University and completed TAP+ Training. She is currently undertaking an MA in Creative Practice.
Joyce received the Graduate Interface Inagh Residency (2024) and the Ealaín na Gaeltachta Bursary Award (2024). Recent and forthcoming exhibitions include BACA Collective at the Laneway Gallery, Cork (2025), Interface Inagh at the Clifden Arts Festival (2025), and K-Fest (2023).
